Granada Usefull Addresses
Airport Granada airport (tel 958 245 223) handles domestic flights to Madrid and Barcelona; details from Air Aviaco (tel 958 227 592), Air Europa (tel 902 240 042) or Iberia (tel 958 229 971).
Books, newspapers and maps Metro, c/Gracia 31, off c/Alhóndiga, to the southwest of Plaza de la Trinidad, is the best international bookshop with a wide selection of books on Granada, Lorca etc, plus walking maps. For maps, try also the Librería Dauro at c/Zacatín 3 (a pedestrian street between the cathedral and c/Reyes Católicos) or for a more specialist selection Cartografica del Sur, c/Valle Inclán 2, southwest of the train station. Foreign press is sold by the kioscos in Plaza Nueva and Puerta Real.
Bullfights are held in season at the Plaza de Toros, Avda. del Doctor Olóriz 25. The bullring's ticket office (tel 958 271 950) or any of the tourist offices has details of upcoming corridas .
Car rental Autos Fortuna, c/Infanta Beatriz 2 tel 958 260 254, are a reliable local outfit who undercut the big boys (prices from ?36-42 per day). Atesa, c/Rector Marín Ocete 8 tel 958 288 755, has reasonable deals with national back-up.
Football C.F. Granada play in Spain's lower league, Segunda División "B", and tickets are easy to come by in season. The stadium, Nuevo los Cármenes tel 958 253 300, lies northwest of the Hospital Real.
Hospital Cruz Roja (Red Cross), c/Escoriaza 8 (tel 958 222 222), or Hospital Clinico San Cecilio, Avda. Dr Olóriz, near the Plaza de Toros (tel 958 270 200).
Internet access Internet , Plaza de los Girones 3, near the Casa de Los Tiros (Mon-Sat 9am-11pm, Sun 4-11pm; tel 958 289 269; ?2.40 per hr, 25-percent discount for Rough Guide readers), is Granada's most efficient online operation; they have another branch at c/Buen Suceso 22 (tel 958 226 919; same hours) just off Plaza de la Trinidad.
Laundry Lavandería La Paz, c/La Paz 19, just west of Plaza Trinidad, is Granada's last remaining launderette and will wash, dry and fold 6kg of washing the same day for ?7.20.
Police The Policía Nacional are located at c/Duquesa 15 off Plaza Trinidad (tel 958 278 300). The Policía Local station is in the ayuntamiento building on Plaza del Carmen (tel 958 209 461).
Post office Puerta Real; Mon-Fri 9am-8.30pm, Sat 9am-2pm.
Shopping Artesanía El Suspiro, Plaza Santa Ana 1 at the northeast end of Plaza Nueva, has a selection of ceramics from surrounding granadino villages, as well as Moroccan pottery and jewellery; its charming Scottish dueña is a fund of local information. Castellano, c/Almireceros 6, between c/Elvira and Gran Vía, is the best place to buy jamón serrano and also stocks regional wines and brandies. Traditional perfumes are made by Aromas de Al-Andalus, c/Almireceros 5 (near Castellano above), using ancient Moorish formulas. La Alcena, c/San Jerónimo 3, on the cathedral's north side, is a great place to find the special products of Andalucía, including olive oil, wines, cheeses, embutidos and lots more; the friendly proprietor speaks good English. Handmade (on the premises) guitars can be tried out and purchased at a number of shops along the Cuesta de Gomérez, leading to the Alhambra.
Swimming pool Piscina Miami (tel 958 250 031), junction c/Arabial and c/Virgen Blanca (west of the centre), has an Olympic-size pool, kids' pool, sunbeds and a good restaurant.
