The Peruvian food is the best of South America and one of the best in the world; because of its great variety of ingredients and delicious flavors. Cusco offers a great number of restaurants where you can enjoy the most impressive variety of tastes. In Cusco you will be able to eat the most famous Peruvian meals like:


Causa a Typical Peruvian Meal

"Cebiche", this meal is prepared with fish or seafood, lemon, onion, toasted corn and Peruvian chili (it isn´t the Mexican). If you eat this delicious food, you will not want to eat another thing.


“Pollo a la brasa”, it is the most popular food in Peru, it is composed by chicken which is cooked at grill, frites potatoes, salad and several sauces. It is a simple food, but has a unique flavor which only it can find in Peru.


“Chupe de camarones”, delicious soup made of potatoes, milk, shrimp, hot chili peppers and eggs.


“Picarones” doughnuts made of “camote” a root vegetable, flour and eggs, fried in lard and served with molasses.


“Tamales”, in Cusco the tamales are not as the Lima’s or Mexicans tamales, since here there are two kinds: The “tamal de dulce” (sweet tamal) which is prepared with flour of maize and raisins and the “tamal salado ” (salted tamal) also made from corn flour but stuffed with chicken, beef, lamb or pork . The main difference amongst the tamales of Cusco and the rest is that the cusqueños are wrapped in corn leaves called “Panccas” whereas the rest are wrapped in banana leaves. This detail influences so much the flavor of the tamales.


“Causa”, it is a delicious meal prepared with yellow mashed potatoes, avocado, chicken, and tomato. 


“Mazamorra Morada”, a jelly dessert of corn, flour and dried fruits.

 

Light and dark beer and wines both red and white are plentiful good, but most famous is the pisco sour, made from a local, potent and good grape brandy the famous “Pisco” which is the national liquor. Nevertheless the “Chicha” is the most ancient liquor in Peru, it is made from fermented but not distilled corn. In Cusco there are several varieties of “Chicha” like the “Frutillada” which is almost the same “Chicha” with delicious strawberries and the “Chicha Morada” a delicious purple corn juice drink that has not alcohol.


A popular drink is the Coca infusion a great remedy, if you are victim of the altitude sickness (“Soroche”). Besides, you can enjoy of the Peruvian coffee one of the best in the World and the impressive number of delicious fruits from the “Convencion” Valley like ”Chirimoya” (a fruit really tasty), avocado, papaya, orange, etc.


The potatoes were domesticated for first time in Peru, therefore here they are the best potatoes of the world, in Cusco there are over 200 kinds of potatoes, each one has a different form and flavor. The potato is the base of Peruvian food.


Cusco offers also many restaurants of international food, here you can find Mexican, Italian, Japanese , German and American food. But if you are in Peru would be a crime not taste the amazing Peruvian food.
