Weather in Playa del Carmen
All Riviera Maya has a subtropical climate which is warm and nice almost whole year. The annual average temperature is around 27ºC (80ºF) and the average humidity is 85%. It rains around 58 days per year and the wind speed is 14 KM/h (8.7 mi/h) approximately. The water of the sea is always warm; therefore this place is excellent for swimming and other aquatic sports. The hottest time in Playa del Carmen is between June and Augusts (summer), during this period there are crowds of tourists every where. Nevertheless, summer is also the wet season, but here it rains one time per day and for short periods. Usually climate is a little cloudy only in August.
The coldest time is between November and January, but it not means that it is cold; during these months the temperatures are more pleasant (19ºC=66ºF at night). This is the ideal time to visit this place, if you don’t like the extreme heat. Nevertheless at night the wind can be a little cold. In this time the humidity and rain are lower than summer, nevertheless the humidity remains quite high (around 80%). Unfortunately, this is a high season for tourists because of the Christmas and the New Year, therefore the prizes are more expensive and it is almost impossible get a good Hotel.
Between September and beginning of November is a great time to visit this beach, because the climate is quite good and there are not crowds. Besides, during this time the sea water is warm still. Nevertheless, there is not perfection; this time is also hurricane season in the Atlantic coast, but if you listen to weather reports and hurricane alerts, probably you will not have problems.
Another good time in Playa del Carmen is spring, between February and May. During this period the climate is very comfortable (less than summer average temperature is 24ºC=75ºF) and the sea is warm and calm. Rainfalls start since April but probably this time of year is the best to visit this place; since the temperatures are mild and there are few people in the beach.
Here it is a good idea to use light and casual clothes made mainly in cotton. Forget polyester and nylon. Also you can do topless if you want.
