Playa del Carmen is a living vibrant part of the Maya World, it’s a cosmopolitan town located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea about 35 miles South of Cancun in the heart of Mexico's Mayan Riviera. Playa del Carmen is the third largest city in the Quintana Roo and is it’s blessed with miles of unspoiled white sandy beaches and crystal-clear Caribbean water. “Playa”, as it is now affectionately known, is the perfect home base for travel to anywhere on the coast of Quintana Roo.
Tourism in Playa del Carmen began when the people realized that it was a nice place to relax away from the crowds of Cancún but the same quality beaches and turquoise waters. Also, Playa del Carmen offers good opportunities for scuba diving and cenote diving.
The Playa del Carmen tourism activity centers on the Avenida 5 (5th Avenue) a pedestrian walkway located just one block inland from the beach and lined with boutique hotels, shops, bars and restaurants. Also, the visitors should check out the “New 5th”, a newly brick paved continuation of the “old 5th Avenue”, there are many newer hotels, restaurants and shops.
A day in Playa del Carmen can be spent relaxing under an umbrella. The ocean breeze is steady enough to keep you cool and the temperature of the sea is perfect for swimming. There are a plenty of fun bars along the Playa where you can enjoy and watch live music, listen to rock, reggae, folk, mariachi, and Mexican bands. Playa del Carmen is located in the perfect location and there are many opportunities for a day trips, to explore Mayan ruins, snorkel or dive in a cenote.
