National Park "Braulio Carrillo "


It is located in central mountain chain at north of central valley. This mountain chain includes volcanoes like: ”Varva”, ”Cacho Negro” and “Bajo de la Hondura”. This area forms the second Reserve of Biosphere in Costa Rica and is named “Central Volcanic Chain Mountain”. It was created in 1978 and  is protected by UNESCO since 1988. It was named in honor to president “Braulio Carrillo” who was a former of the republic  whose administration helped to develop agricultural economy of Costa Rica.


The park is covered by a great forest which is divided in five different parts, each one is a distinct ecosystem.


This place hosts a great variety of native birds (over 500 like: solitary eagle, umbrella bird , etc ), orchids and ferns. As well as 600 identified species of trees and 135 of mammals. The park is less visited than others parks of Costa Rica like “Poas” or “Manuel Antonio”.


The park is crossed by a modern road whose end is in “Guapiles” plains, where there is a information center with all services.




Parque central


It situated in the San Jose neighborhood of Heredia, this park is used a local meeting place for Heredia’s citizens. The park houses to  “Concepción” church, and some gardens like “Inmaculada Gardens”. Tourists can also see the large fountain, gazebo, and many others monuments.

 

Liceo de Heredia


This building was the first high school of Heredia and opened your doors in 1870. Two historical events occurred here: “the first graduation mixed” in 1911 and the first time it was taught theories of Darwin in Costa Rica. The building was declared historical monument in 1977. Important men and women like “Victor Raul Haya de La Torre”, “Jacinto Benavente” and “Gabriela Mistral” were teachers in this school .

 

El Fortin


This ancient tower is a symbol of  Heredia city. It was constructed in 1876 by order of “Don Fadrique Gutierrez” who was governor of the city besides  designer and sculptor. The scope of this building was the defending of the city. On November 2, 1974 the building was declared national monument 

 

Parroquia de la inmaculda concepcion


The church was built from 1796 to 1807 and is located at center of the city. This church is one of the oldest in Costa Rica and is a matter of pride for Heredia’s citizens. The temple was declared national monument on May 24, 1963.

 

Jardines de la Inmaculada


They are a set of gardens which was constructed in honor to Virgin Mary. These gardens are located in the northeast corner of  “Parque Central“. Usually Heredia’s citizens wander in the park amongst the orchids and the Japanese cypresses. This park saves an important collection of exotic plants.

 

Café Britt Farm


This plantation of coffee produces one the best coffee of the country. Tours here includes classes with coffee experts who will show how coffee is grown, processed and roasted.Besides you will be able to drink a cup of coffee made in this moment. This kind of tour is unique in Costa Rica.

 

Ojo de Agua


It is situated to 19 Km of the city. There the main attraction is a spring from which flow around 23000 liters per minute. The spring provides water to many spa pools that are in the complex.

 

Monte de la cruz


This recreational park is situated to 16 Km on the north of the city. The park offers to visitors picnic zones, sport fields and a gorgeous view of Central Valley.
