During the turtle nesting season (from October to May) Playa Grande only is opened to public in the mornings.
At nights the beach is watched by patrols of police that have to protect the turtles’ eggs. That is necessary because there are any tourists and poachers; who collect these eggs; since any people believe wrongly that they have aphrodisiacs properties.

But if you are not interested by the animal life, then you can take your surf board, go to the beach and doing surfing until twilight. Playa Grande have magnified waves for its consistency and good mix of lefts and rights; which are amongst the best of the country. Nevertheless the north area of the beach is enough quiet to do swimming; if you prefer.

There are not a great number of  hotels in the place because Playa Grande is into the national park Las Baulas, and arrive to the beach is very difficult but the beach is  worth the trouble.
