El Mercado Central (The central market)
The central market of Santiago is a architectural jewel. The building is simply spectacular, that was designed to be a train station in the first moment. The ceiling is all made of steel, it was imported from Belgium and assembled in Santiago. Retailers offer a wide array of fresh fish and seafood in one place. It is a street market and fair that is doing at weekend in the popular Bellavista neighborhood. Sellers populate scores of street-side booths and sell everything since knit sweaters until Latin music CDs. It may take a well-trained eye to separate the wheat from the chaff but the experience can be very fun.
