Weather in Faro


Faro city is located in Algarve, this region of Portugal has four seasons well defined. Nevertheless, this region is also one of the warmest in Portugal, since usually there are 3000 sunshine hours per year. This region is one of the sunniest zones in Europe. Its climate is very influenced by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
The hottest time is summer when the average temperature is 28 ºC (82ºF); but the maximum temperature can reach until 40 ºC (104 ºF). During summer commonly there are 12 sunshine hours per day. In Algarve, summers are quite long and very dry.
Autumn is a nice time to visit Faro and the whole Algarve region; because temperatures are mild. It is an excellent period to do swimming and other sea sports. During autumn temperatures usually fluctuate between 11ºC (52ºF) and 23ºC (73ºF), with many sunshine days, during all season.
Winter in Algarve is quite mild compared other Europe’s region. The lowest temperature occurs usually in January, when thermometers commonly reach 15ºC (59ºF). During this season, there is an average of six hours, with sun per day. Nevertheless, in the last years the climate has been changed as the rest of the world, because of the Global warming, an example occurred in January 2006 when for first time; it saw snow on the Algarve’s beaches.
Spring is probably the best time in Algarve. In this region, spring begins in April and reach its peak in May, during these two months, the fields comes alive with an amazing profusion of wild flowers. Temperatures in spring fluctuate between 18ºC (64ºF) and 23 ºC (73ºF).
The climate in Algarve is quite dry during whole year there is not a lot of rainfall. Most rainfalls in this region are in winter from November to March. The annual average rate of precipitation is 520 mm (20 inches) per year, being the rate between November and March 368 mm ( 14 inches).
The humidity rate fluctuates between 60% and 77% and the wind speed between 12 Km/h (7.5 mph) and 15 Km/h (9.3 mph). Algarve has one of the best climates of Europe; therefore is a very popular destination mainly in summer. This region receives every year around 5 millions tourists, from Portugal and the rest of Europe. It is worth visiting faro in any time.
