There are many ways to get Faro, the fastest and most comfortable is by plane. Faro city has an international airport located 8 Km at west of the city. This airport receives flights from Lisbon and several European capitals like London. It lasts around 30 minutes reach Faro from Lisbon by plane. From the Faro’s airport you can take a taxi or a bus to reach the city.

 

Portugal owns a good train’s service. There are trains available between Faro and Lisbon five times per day. The trip lasts around 4 hours and 45 minutes and costs around 18 euros. The train station is located at “Largo da Estaçao”, next to the sea and northwest of the Marina. The main line from Faro to Lisbon is the “Alfa”, which leaves at 6:45 and arrives at 9:30.

There is also bus service between Faro and Lisbon. It lasts around 3 hours and half. The bus station is located at 5 “Avenida da Republica”. The bus ticket costs around 15 euros. The local bus service in Faro is known as “yellow EVA buses” and is quite efficient and cheap; this bus private service communicates Faro with several cities in Algarve like Albufeira, Loulé, Lagos or Tavira. Usually the local bus service is available only until 20:00.

 

By car from Lisbon there are several routes, being the best the A2 motorway leading on to the IP1 all the way to the N125 east-west Algarve road. The distance is around 250 Km and it can last between 3 and 4 hours, depending of the vehicle’s speed. There are also roads that connect directly Southern Spain with Faro. You should remember that in Portugal, it drives on the right side of the road. Besides, drinking and driving is severely controlled and limited. There are several companies that provide rent a car service, some of them are located in the airport. The minimum age to hire a car in Portugal is 21 years old.

 

Nevertheless, probably the best way to know Faro city is walking. Most attractions in Faro are located in the Downtown, where you can get any place on foot.
