Rio de Janeiro has without doubt one of the most exciting and intense nights of the world. In Rio recreation has it all; when the sun goes down, the city comes alive with many bars, clubs, theaters, discos, restaurants and much more. Most of main bars and clubs of the city are located in the Lapa district near the famous “Arcos” the former aqueduct of Rio in the Downtown. But if you prefer a higher samba dose, you can assist to the weekly parties that offer the samba schools as part of their training to the carnival. But, you must go to their neighborhood headquarters and some of them are a few dangerous; nevertheless, the experience is worth.
Rio commonly hosts also great musical concerts in the Maracana stadium where world stars like Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney or the rolling Stones have presented their shows. If you want to find a musical concert or another spectacle in the city, you should see newspapers, where you will find dates and prices to these events.
The most popular drink in Rio is beer. The Rio citizens consume on average 94 liters per person every year; this consumption is almost double of national beer consumption, which is 50 liters per year. These numbers demonstrate the passion by beer that there is in Rio.
Rio de Janeiro is also a sex tourism point; the ladies of the night occupy mainly some parts of the Copacabana waterfront like the Balcony Bar and the Lido Square, at these places, it can find also many strips clubs.

Bunker 94
It is a great place, very popular amongst Rio’s young. There you can dance at sound of Techno, Hip hop and pop. The club has excellent DJs and opens from Thursday to Saturday from 23:00 to dawn. It is located at 94 “Raul Pompeia” street in Copacabana. Prices are between R$10 ($5.7) and R$20 ($11.2).
Baronneti
It is a nice and happening dance club very popular amongst people from 20 to 40 years old. Here minimum consumption cost around R$70 ($40) somewhat expensive for the standards of the city. The club has two floors and a relatively small but nice dancing floor. The DJs play all kinds of music from dance music to hip hop. It is located at 354 “Brao da Torre” street in Ipanema.
Rio Scenarium
It is one of the most beautiful and famous bars in Rio. The bar is located in a restored house in the Lapa district. This bar usually present live music shows; nevertheless, because of its popularity, the bar attracts many foreign men and women who like foreign men. Therefore, the bar has lost part of its spirit, but is still a nice place to enjoy a drink and a good spectacle. It is located at 20 “Do Lavradio” street and admission costs R$15 ($8.5) on weekdays and R$18 ($10) at weekends.
Casa da Matriz
It is a great dancing club where, it can find mainly alternative and 80s music, although it can hear also Brazilian rhythms. Its dancing floor is very nice and drinks are cheap. This place is a beautiful art house turned discotheque. It is an important meeting point to young people. It is located at 107 “Henrique Novais” street in the Botafogo district. Cover charge cost between $R10 ($5.6) and R$14($8).
Melt
It is an excellent club located in the Leblon district. This club is famous by its great live music shows, which are very diverse, since they range from samba and bossa nova to rock and hip hop . The club is composed by a restaurant a bar and a dance floor. It is an good place to meet people mainly Brazilians. It is situated at 47 “Rita Ludolf” street and cover charge costs between $R10 ($5.6) and R$1($10).
Caneçao
A traditional place inaugurated in 1967; this place is located at 215 “Venceslau” avenue in the Botafogo district, This place is one of the best to hear Brazilian music; since several of the most famous local artists like Ney Matogroso, Rita Le or, Spok Frevo Orquestra present here their shows. Caneçao is a true institution of the Brazilian popular art. Here, cover charge costs between R$25 and R$140 depending on the show and the location.
Garota de Ipanema
This famous bar is named as the legendary song “Garota de Ipanema” (The girl from Ipanema) and is located at 49A “Vinicious de Moraes”, the street that has the name of one of the song’s authors. This song was inspired by a girl who usually passed in front to the bar. The bar is a classic bohemian place where commonly it can enjoy live music and good drinks.
