Shopping in Maceio


The Maceio handicrafts are famous in Brazil, mainly its lace works. The Maceio embroidery works are of high quality and beauty, thanks to the ancient techniques used by the local artisans; these techniques have been taught from parents to children for several generations. The textile works made by the local artisans are true art pieces. In the local crafts markets you can get beautiful mantels, amazing clothes and wonderful curtains. The main feature of the Maceio’s lace technique is its appearance, which is similar to a fishing net made of cotton fiber. Most of textiles are colorful and has nice designs with a great variety of geometric shapes.
There are several places in the city, where it can find textiles and many other kinds of handcrafts and souvenirs; one of them is “Cheiro da Terra” a big trade complex , where you can buy from postcards to jewelry; besides, prices here are quite reasonable. This place is located at 2500 “Alvaro Otacilho” Street.
Another nice place to buy souvenirs is “Pontal da Barra”, this place is known by being the only community, that lives on the production of handicraft. There, it can find fine laceworks. The district is located on the shores of Lake Mundaú and shops spread through the streets.
Other good places to buy handcrafts are: the "Feira de Artesanato da Pajuçara" (Doutor Antonio Gouveia Avenue) and Associaçao das Doceiras de Massagueira (Antonio Cunha Avenue).
But, Maceio has also several shopping centers where it can get almost any thing, like food, clothes, electronic devices, etc. Some of them are:
