Viareggio Carnival

One of the most beautiful and spectacular Carnival of the world that dates back from February 1873, the processions and parades draw over a million of visitors from all over the world. “Cup of Champagne”, the current song of Carnival was sung in 1921. Two years later was realized the first carnival with a moving figure - a float with the figure of “Pierrot” that moved head and eyes.
Viareggio is famous for its Carnival, in which thousands of people, wearing masks, take part in the colorful parades of gaily decorated floats along the wide seafront promenade. During the summer visitors can see the workshops in which the floats are prepared for the Carnival with the papier-mâché as well as figures and animals.
Viareggio Carnival represents a meeting place of Italian tradition and universal principles of solidarity and peace in a light and happy atmosphere. It also called the Carnival of Italy and Europe. Every year celebrates the splendour of a whole month (February) with great and triumphal floats that appear on its scenery, furthermore visitors can enjoy of parades, district celebrations, masked and shows of every kind.

Cittadella Jazz

During summer, Viareggio holds a festival of concerts from mid June through mid-August as well as dance performances too.
Puccini Opera Festival

This summer festival is held at Torre di Lago Puccini which is near to town.
The Donkey Race

The Palio dei Micci held on the second Sunday after Easter at Querceta. The parades in medieval costumes end with a donkey race.
