Agia Triada Monastery

The monastery, located 15.5 km north-east of Chania town, is surrounded by a landscape of an incredible natural beauty. It can be a great excursion for the day. The main church of the monastery is cruciform and has a round dome and two side chapels are respectively dedicated to Zoodochou Pigi and to Saint John the Theologian. The most impressive part of the monastery is the facade of church, a pure architectural marvel built of pink coral stones. In 1833 the monastery housed a boarding school. A beautiful library (which works like a small museum) can also be found there displaying old codices and rare books as well as worthy icons painted by the famous religious painter Mercurius of Santorini.

The Katholikon

The oldest monastery of Crete is called too The Monastery of Saint John the Hermit of the Stranger. It has been entirely cut out of the rock and only its western side has been built with stones and marble. The cells are located around the courtyard and visitors can see the entrance of Saint John the Hermit’s cave, which is the bed of and old underground river and is full of superb stalactites and stalagmites, in addition a basin full of water is located at the entrance of the cave. Only ruins remain of this beautiful monastery but there are really something worthy which create a mystical and unique atmosphere.
Frangokastello

Situated on the arid plain along the coast, Frangokastello is surrounded by beautiful and verdant mountains. It is one of the most visited places which count with excellent restaurants and a superb sandy beach with clear shallow waters lies in front of the castle and is ideal for children. Non doubt, this beautiful and imposing Venetian castle is an interesting and ideal way to finish pleasantly an excursion.

The Chrysoskalitissa Convent

This convent has been built on a rock and is really worthy for the astonishing view offered from there. Two naves respectively dedicated to the Dormition of theVirgin and to the Holy Trnity are framing the main church convent.
Elafonissos Islet

Elafonissos means the Island of Deer and is a pure paradise with a wonderful beach with pink coral sand and crystalline waters. Also called Elafonissi is one of the best experience visitors of life because of the great beauty of the place. It connects to the rest of Crete by a shallow reef that can be crossed when the sea is calm but can also be reached by fishing boats leaving from the village of Paleochora.
