Athens is located in the Attica periphery, one of the oldest cities in the world with at least 3,000 years of history.
Portrayed through a number of ancient monuments and artworks, the heritage of the classical era is still evident in the city, the most famous is the Parthenon on the Acropolis. Also Athens has a vast variety of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments which project the long history of the city through the centuries. Modern landmarks can also be found. The Parliament and most of the Ministries such as The Monastiraki, Kolonaki and Lycabettus Hill attract thousands of visitors every year. A few kilometers from the historical centre, you will find the sea breeze in Faliro, Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni. Or you can head up north and to enjoy the fresh air in Marousi, Melissia, Vrilissia and of course Kifisia, the most classy neighborhoods.
Sintagma and Omonia are two of the most important squares surrounded by hotels, commerce and coffee shops. The old Real Palace turned into Parliament, has a solemn aspect which accentuated with the sunset, owns a great garden extended towards the south. In front Unknown Soldier monument, you observe to the sentries mounting guard like marble statues. In the other side is located the Omonia Square with a certain Eastern air and almost always with lots of people walking around. Near to the Sintagma Square, is located the picturesque neighborhood of Plaka. By unifying all the antiquities with parks, pedestrian narrow streets, avenues and tying them in with the nightlife areas Psiri and Thission, they have created a model that other cities for sure, will follow.

In general the most important archaeological monuments of Athens that you can appreciate are: Parthenon, Odeon of Herod Atticus (Theatre), Temple of the Olympian Zeus, Roman Market, Panathinaiko Stadium or Kallimarmaro, The Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Kapnikarea's church and the imposing neoclassic buildings, true ornaments of the city are The Greek Parliament, Athens Academy, University and National Library. Athens has something for everybody and suddenly the Athenians have good reason to be proud of their city.
