Transportation into and around New York City metro area is critical because it has one of the largest public transportation systems in the world, three airports, a major bus terminal and two major rail hubs. In addition there are a number of good choices for getting in and out in New York.

New Cork City counts with three main airports: La Guardia, JKF and Newark airport and a conveniently located heliport in Manhattan’s downtown. The most major carriers fly into the area including American Airlines, United Airlines and British Airways among others.


Staten Island Ferry in New York

Catch the Staten Island Ferry from Battery Park is a great way to see lower Manhattan. You can get great views of Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. This is the only way for tourists to get to these attractions. Most of the time there are street performers to entertain the waiting crowds.


By bus



Recently updated, blue and white buses in New York City are big and also a cheap way to get around Manhattan. Visitors can always get a current routes map and schedules which are posted in the city at bus stations and stops.


By train



New York City has two major terminals Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal which handle train traffic in the city. Penn Station is located next to Madison Square Garden and has Amtrak trains that travel the domestic US as well as the LIRR the line which connect Manhattan to Long Island. Grand Central Terminal has many shops, restaurants and bars where you can grab a quick bite to eat or a newspaper or magazine before you jump on the train. Port Authority Bus Terminal is the hub for all long distance and commuter bus service in and out of New York City.


By subway



Subway system is a great way to get around the city and it is fairly clean and reliable way. You can get anywhere in the city for $2.00.


By cabs



Whether you don’t want to hassle with subway or buses, non doubt the best way to get around the city are the yellow taxis. But if you have a problem with your cab driver is best to note the driver’s number in case you need to lodge a complaint. Be prepared to pay in cash. No credit cards are accepted.
