New York City has many theaters, so visitors will have to find out about what it has to offer in the Arts and Theaters.

Metropolitan Opera House - New York

Metropolitan Opera House

Since its opening in 1883, The Metropolitan Opera has been one of the world's leading opera companies. Today, the Met's preeminent position rests on the elements that established its reputation: high quality performances with many of the world’s most renowned artists, a superior company of orchestral and choral musicians, a large repertory of works, and the resources to make performances available to the public. The first Metropolitan Opera House was built on Broadway and 39th Street by a group of wealthy businessmen who wanted their own opera house. In the company's early years, the management changed course several times, first performing everything in Italian (even Carmen and Lohengrin), then everything in German (even Aida and Faust), before finally settling into a policy of performing most works in their original language - with some notable exceptions.

Radio City Music Hall

Since its doors opened on December 27, 1932; America's most popular entertainers have thrilled audiences at Radio City Music Hall such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr. and Tony Bennett are among the celebrities and luminaries to grace the Great Stage. "Radio City was a palace of people. A place of beauty offering high quality entertainment which try to entertain, to amuse and over all elevating and inspiring”

Carnegie Hall - New York

Carnegie Hall

The Isaac Stern Auditorium is the largest hall at Carnegie Hall and it has been the premier classical music performance space in the United States since its opening in 1891, showcasing the world's greatest soloists, conductors, and ensembles. Carnegie Hall is an intimate auditorium ideal for recitals, chamber music concerts, symposia, discussions, master classes, and more. The new Judy and Arthur Zankel Hall will open in September 2003 as the site of a broad spectrum of performing and educational events. Its construction is now underway to create a versatile auditorium seating approximately for 650 people.

Avery Fisher Hall

Located at the northern end of the Lincoln Center Plaza, at the corner of Columbus Avenue and 65th Street, Avery Fisher Hall includes New York’s Philharmonic, the annual Great Performers, the Lincoln Center Festival and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Recent renovations have greatly improved the acoustics. After over 35 years of operation, Avery Fisher Hall has gained its status as one of the best places in New York to observe classical music.
