Liverpool Sports

Liverpool is considered one of the world’s sports capitals. Probably the best collection of golf courses in Britain is here. The British Open was held here twice in the past few years. In 2006 the Open was held at Royal Liverpool. In 2008, it was held at Royal Birkdale.
The Liverpool International Tennis Festival is played on grass amid the serenity of Calderstones Park. In Merseyside alone, there are 40 golf clubs some of them are: Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham and Formby among others.
The Grand National steeplechase at Liverpool’s Aintree racecourse is also well known such as the football with two of the world’s greatest football clubs, the Everton and Liverpool. Merseyside people are fanatical, whether they are the red of Liverpool or the blue of Everton, but it is not rare to find a family with both red and blue loyalties.

Anfield Stadium
Anfield Stadium is home of Liverpool’s most famous football team, FC Liverpool. With a capacity of 45.000 it was opened in 1884 became in one of the first stadiums in the world.
About horse racing sport, Liverpool is home to Aintree Racecourse, an historic venue of the Grand National, of the top-class Chester and Haydock Park racecourses.
Four of Rugby League’s major clubs are in Liverpool: St Helens, Widnes, Warrington and Wigan. The Liverpool International Tennis Festival is played on grass amid the serenity of Calderstones Park, a few hundred yards from Strawberry Field, it is developing as a great warm-up for Wimbledon.
There are more sports too of course, such as sailing and yachting, with annual regattas on the Mersey, which also regularly hosts the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. But it almost makes you surprise why Liverpool doesn’t bid to hold the Olympic Games. Maybe it would be better host than other cities in Britain.
