Since the 1800s, British holidaymakers have flocked to Brighton for a bit of seaside fun. In 1783 the future George IV rented a farmhouse and eventually turned it into the opulent pleasure palace that is known as the Royal Pavilion.

Brighton is one of the largest and most famous seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. It is a popular tourist resort with numerous hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities, which additionally serve a substantial business conference industry. The modern city of Brighton is also an important educational centre with two universities and many English language schools. Brighton is also attractive for its gorgeous Regency architecture and its bohemian and stylish atmosphere.

So for a fun and entertaining day out for all the family, remember – it’s fun all year on Brighton Pier!

The Royal Pavilion
Eccentric, Extravagant, Extraordinary. Universally acclaimed as one of the most exotically beautiful buildings in the British Isles, this Regency palace is breathtaking. Completed in 1823, this oriental fantasy is a testament to the flamboyant character and sophisticated tastes of George IV. The exterior, inspired by Indian architecture, contrasts with interiors decorated in Chinese style. The Royal Pavilion was conceived as a 'work of art' and designed as an entity. The interior decorative schemes were orchestrated from the floor up, building to a climax in the magnificent ceilings of the Banqueting and Music Rooms. The building has been superbly restored and visitors today can enjoy the sumptuous decoration and the outstanding quality of the furniture and furnishings in this Regency palace.

Theatre Royal Brighton
Set in Brighton’s Cultural Quarter opposite The Royal Pavilion and minutes from fabulous shops and restaurants, this special Theatre provides the best of the West End in a truly traditional setting. Theatre Royal Brighton has been a national treasure for nearly two hundred years and remains one of the best-known and wellloved buildings on the South Coast. It has a long tradition of presenting top quality, starstudded productions, often before they play London. A rich, mixed programme continues to bring the cream of the acting fraternity to its world famous stage in gripping drama, world-renowned musicals, cracking comedies and outstanding family entertainment including a spectacular traditional pantomime.

Brighton SEA LIFE Centre
Brighton Sea Life centre is a show piece of Victorian splendour. Giant turtles an sharks grace the underwater walk through a tunnel set within the heart of the world’s oldest operating aquarium. The Brighton Sea Life Centre offers a fun and educational day out whatever the weather. With over 150 species and 57 displays, you will be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable day for the whole family. Watch in amazement as giant turtles and sharks glide above you in our Tropical Reef complete with a shark encircled wreck and breath-taking tropical coral, you can make it your own adventure. Sea Life also has a souvenir gift shop and Tea Rooms serving hot and cold drinks and snacks.

Brighton Festival
Each May Brighton Festival, the biggest and brightest mixed arts festival in England, brings an international, world class mix of exclusive events, premieres, special one-off commissions and endless hours of entertainment to the city by the sea. The Festival prides itself on innovation and invention, whether it’s re-imagining the city’s traditional spaces with extraordinary performances like Neil Bartlett’s The Maids in the Old Ship Hotel, or reinventing the art of performance itself in the city’s unexplored landscapes with site specific audio visual adventure PlayRec at Brighton Station. It also caters for all ages with a strong strand of children and family friendly performance including free events like the Streets of Brighton Weekend and 26 Letters designed specially for young bookworms. Brighton’s reputation as England’s pleasure capital harks back to its Regency heyday.

Komedia
A live entertainment venue with a programme of music, comedy, cabaret, theatre and childrens’ theatre. A major player in the Brighton Festival Fringe every year, the programme is crammed to the rafters with exciting events during May. All taking place under one roof, Komedia incorporates three performance spaces, a kitchen serving freshly prepared food and a café bar. Situated in the thriving North Laine, the venue is inspired by the European model of café culture as a doorway into the arts. Every day you can enjoy a coffee, glass of wine, a sandwich or a delicious cake in the Café Bar. You can buy your tickets from the counter inside the café for the wide range of shows in the evenings, from the Kronenbourg Krater Comedy Club every weekend, to a live music gig or cabaret performance. At many events, you can enjoy the full cabaret experience of top entertainment plus a meal at candlelit tables. The menu is a selection of freshly-prepared hot and cold dishes, including meat and vegetarian options and platters to share with your friends.
