Sydney is known for its nightlife scene. It has numerous cafes, bars, clubs, great pubs, jazz, haunts, rock venues and nightclubs in most quarters of it. Some bars feature live music or stand-up comedians. Otherwise, there is always a play, opera or a film to be seen. Sydney’s magazines have extensive listings specially the Sydney Morning Herald.

The historical Rocks area near Circular Quay is home to some of Sydney's historic pubs including the Lord Nelson; a very old pub serving beer brewed on the premises, and The Hero of Waterloo which is packed out every night. The Orient is also a very popular bar, especially at weekends.

The Basement, Soup Plus and the Harbourside Brasserie are the venues to see top Australian and International Jazz and blues performers. Furthermore world music and international acts are in this cosmopolitan city.

The Rocks and Disco in Sydney

Oxford Street, between Hyde Park and Taylor Square has pubs and dance clubs. Cockle Bay Wharf in Darling Harbour has bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. But the Central Business District is more formal, pubs and clubs spill down to The Rocks. Casual restaurants and pubs are on Surry Hills. Kings Cross is the traditional red light area with bars, clubs, betting venues, burlesque shows, video shows, massage parlours, strip clubs and exotic dance clubs. During the warmer summer months, Darling Harbour has something for everyone whether you are not sure where to start a special night.

There is no question Sydney's nightlife is widely diverse, offering something for everyone.
