Sydney is one of the most important cities of Australia, therefore a large number of festivals and events are regularly held in this wonderful global city thereby Sydney is the cultural hub of the country. Sydney’s festivals and events are extremely colourful and visitors can to get a complete idea about the culture of the country.


Sydney Festival

January



Sydney Festival
The most attended annual cultural event, probably it attract in excess of one million people. Sydney Festival presents the best international and national performing and visual arts. It is the major cultural celebration designed to express the nature, colour and flair that is Sydney. The program combines outdoor and indoor events such as concerts in the Domain.

Twilight at Taronga Series
Three months of regular twilight performance at the Taronga Zoo (January, February and March). It showcases the best of Sydney in the summer-fabulous weather, delicious food in great company and sensational entertainment in an awe-inspiring setting. Visitors will experiment the thrill of an open-air night concert in the wild surrounds of Taronga Zoo, enhanced by the exotic calls of the animals and the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour.

Chinese New Year Festival
The Chinese New Year Festival features traditional entertainment with dragon and lion dances, local and international performers, cultural exhibitions, history tours and the magnificent Chinese New Year Imperial Banquet. Furthermore a colourful parade through Sydney’s streets and The Traditional Chinatown Markets open with delicious food, decorations and Chinese ornaments. Three weeks of fun, excitement, colour and entertainment between January and February.

Tamworth Country Music Festival
The Tamworth Country Music Festival is a long weekend of song, festival and fun which brings to country performers from across Australia.

Greek Festival of Sydney
The festival stages events represent the Greek’s way of life such as their rich cultural and artistic heritage. The Greek Festival of Sydney is a month long festival sponsored by The Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales.
Over the period entertainment, activities and learning opportunities will be available through music, theatre, visual arts, dance, lectures, philosophy, food and children's events

Royal Easter Show
The Royal Easter Show combines exhibits, competitions and entertainment over two weeks at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park. Every day opens at 9:00am during the 14 days of the Show. Some of the major attractions are: The Sydney Royal Rodeo in the spectacular Main Arena where each night at the end of show, a bang as the Fireworks Finale lights up the skies.

Hunter Valley Harvest Festival
During this festival the wine industry hits top gear, the grape picking, the checking and accessing crops and the crushing and bottling. The atmosphere is intense. But this festival presents not only wine and wine making but feats, olives, cheeses, horse racing and festivities get into Hunter Valley Festival.

Kings Cross Food & Wine Festival
The King Cross Food and Wine Festival is realized a Sunday in May in which fine foods and wines are celebrated on the Kings Cross entertainment district. The entertainment includes jazz, classical and world music plus dance and performances by artists unique to Kings Cross.

Yalumba Thredbo Jazz Festival
Three days of Jazz music event in the Yalumba Thredbo Jazz Festival with food and wine both consumed at Thredbo, the heart of the Snowy Mountains. Thredbo is around 500 kilometres from Sydney or seven hours if you drive.

Scone & Upper Hunter Horse Festival
For more than 25 years the Scone & Upper Hunter Horse Festival continues to attract ever increasing crowds. Visitors could come to enjoy over two weeks of equine country life with thoroughbred shows, horse competitions, rodeos, dog trials, parties and fairs on the edge of the Hunter Valley wine region. Scone is considered the Horse Capital of Australia. Since 1947, the festival also includes the Scone Cup horse race which attracts well over 8,000 patrons to the track each year.

Jazz and Shiraz Food and Wine Festival
Jazz and Shiraz is one of the premier events held on the Cronulla Coast, which boasts a huge range of great attractions and can be easily accessed by car, rail or bus from Sydney. The best icon for this festival is to enjoy of two days of best food, fine wine and jazz music at Cronulla. Between sets, you can sample the range of Australian wines on show and enjoy some of the international cuisine on offer as well as exquisite chocolate and nougat, gourmet teas and world class coffee to round out the menu.

Sydney Film Festival
Sydney Film Festival is Australia's International film event of the year, showcasing contemporary cinema from Australia and around the world. The festival was established in 1954 and has evolved into a major cultural event on the city's social calendar. Fifteen days of movies from the four corners of the globe.

The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts
The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts has been held annually since 1958 and it continues to promote and attain recognition for aspiring Australians in various fields of arts such as verse, short story, song, art, photography and television. Children also have the opportunity for development their skills. There is no question that is a festival to present young and aspiring writers to the world.

Good Food & Wine Show
The Good Food & Wine Show is the ultimate place to explore new tastes and the latest culinary trends from around the world. Visitors can sample free food and wine, see live cooking demonstrations from celebrity and television chefs and win 100s of fabulous prizes. Try to explore new tastes and the latest culinary trends.

Biennale of Sydney
The Biennale of Sydney ranks in the top three leading international festivals of contemporary art and multimedia. It is recognised as the major contemporary art event in the Southern Hemisphere. This event has the main purpose to develop and present a program that test traditional thinking and encouraged new levels of enthusiasm for different creative expressions.

The Sydney Garden & Flower Show
The Sydney Garden & Flower Show is on over the last week in April and is held in a range of venues at Darling Harbour. Get advice on gardening for a range of experts and celebrities.

Bangalow Music Festival
The audiences at the festival are taken on a melodic journey with works by composers such as Mozart, Ravel, Bach, Liszt, Chopin and Debussy and newer works by Australian composers. The performances are made up of Jazz, Choir, Ensumbes and Soloists.


Festival of the Winds - Bondi Beach - Sydney

Festival of the Winds
Australia’s largest and most exciting colourful kite flying festival held off Bondi Beach. The day is packed full of dance exhibitions, visual treats, workshops, multicultural entertainment and foods, rides, kite displays, activities for kids and adults.

Cronulla Spring Festival
The Cronulla Spring Festival is in its second decade. Sydney's third largest outdoor festival and to celebrate the commencement of Spring. The Cronulla Spring Festival is a two day event featuring more than 100 market stalls, entertainment on stage and this festival is fun for all ages.

Darling Harbour Fiesta
This event is claimed to be most significant Latin American and Spanish festival in Australia. Get ready to feel the rhythm and discover the passion of Latin America with many free performances by top bands and dancers, plus the opportunity to learn to salsa, tango and samba. The Fiesta usually starts with an spectacular fireworks.

Australian International Motor Show
Australian International Motor Show is held towards the middle of October. Over 11 days, the show has hundreds of vehicles on display of which many are all-new, updated and revised models and with some being cutting-edge concept cars from around the world.

Balmain Art and Craft Show
Balmain Art and Craft Show is one of Sydney's leading cultural community events. It covers the full breath of artistic expression from inspirational Indigenous and contemporary art to unique high quality designer crafts.
This is an art event for the whole family and includes a range of family craft activities and a delicious gourmet cafe. Entry is free.


Carols in the Domain - Sydney

Carols in the Domain
Sydney has played host to the annual Carols in the Domain for the past 23 years. This event attracts neigh on 100,000 people who enjoy the festive spirit, the singing of carols, the musical variety and the feeling of bonhomie. This is a night of sitting under the stars wrapped in your blanket with your thermos of coffee and picnic basket and listening to magnificent choirs, orchestras and guest artist. Non doubt a perfect night for a family at Christmas.

Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race
For more than 60 years this event attracted interest in the world. The race attracts yachts as small as 30 footers and as big as 90 footers, sailed by crews who range from your weekend club sailors to professionals who have competed in key ocean going races from the major yacht racing circuits.
The race is over the 630 nautical miles and begins at 13:00 hours on the picturesque Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day and finishes with a sprint up the Derwent River.
