Shanghai, as an important financial and business center of China, is the busiest transportation hub in eastern China. Shanghai has highly developed an extensive and convenient public transportation network mainly based on buses, and a rapidly expanding metro system. Shanghai has various transportation links to the adjacent and distant cities in China, such as Suzhou, Nanjing, Xian, Beijing and Hong Kong, and also to cities in other countries so, nowadays, it is easy to travel to and from Shanghai.

Transrapid Maglev train
It was made with German technology; the German Transrapid constructed this first high-speed Maglev line (Shanghai Magnetic Levitation Demostration Operation Line) in the world in 2002 in cooperation with the Shanghai municipality and the Sanghai Maglev Transportation Development Co. Its construction began in March 2001 and public service commenced on January 1th, 2004. The service runs from Longyang Road station in Pudong to Pudong International Airport in a trip of 30km that takes about 7 minutes and 20 seconds with an operational speed that reach 431km/hr.

Airports
Shanghai is the only city in Chine which has two international airports: Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport. Both are modern and equipped with very advanced facilities. Together, with about daily 1,000 flights, links Shanghai with may domestic and international cities such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris and Tokyo.

Train
It provides an inexpensive and comfortable way to get to the city. Shanghai is at the junction of the Beijing – Shanghai and Beijing – Hangzhou train lines. Most trains arrive and depart from Shanghai station and these branch off in various directions so many cities all over the country can be reached by direct train from Shanghai.

By Bus
With about one thousand bus lines, Shanghai has the most extensive bus system in the world. Shanghai has a few long-distance bus stations which are convenient when traveling to Shanghai. There are four national highways and four expressways composing the city’s efficient long-distance bus transport sytem.

By Taxi
Taxis in Shanghai are abundant and market competition made taxi fare cheaper and accessible for the average resident. Taxis are easy to get and it’s usually the most comfortable way to get around.
