Cairo city has a typical desert climate with days very hot and nights quite cool. It is warm all year round with average temperatures that fluctuate between 20ºC (68ºF) and 36ºC (100ºF). Cairo has only two seasons; around 8 months of summer and four months of winter.


The summers (from May to August), can be unbearably hot; therefore many people prefer travel to coastal destinations like Alexandria. During this period, temperatures in Cairo usually can reach 38ºC with low rates of humidity. Besides, because of the great level of Pollution of the city, the sweltering summer afternoons are quite horrible. The only advantage of this time is that you can find flights and hotels for prices very cheap.

 

The best time to visit Cairo is between September and March (winter). During this time the average temperatures range from 15ºC (59ºF) to 25 ºC (77ºF). These temperatures are ideal to tourist activities. This period has also some rainfalls, but in Cairo, it rains only around 10 days per year. The rate of precipitation in the city is around 24.7 mm (0.97 inches) per year.

 

The lowest temperatures occurs between November and February; when they can reach until 7ºC (45ºF) at night and during the day, temperatures usually are between 12ºC(54ºF) and 15 ºC(59ºF).

 

From March to April, is the period of strong winds; therefore during this time in Cairo city commonly there are large sandstorms, which sometimes do not allow to people  to leave out from their houses.

 

If you want to visit Cairo, you must bring lots of clothes made of cotton and jackets; since it is cool at night. It is advisable to dress conservatively, because Egypt is an Islamic country.
